PENTACON XIX 2003

"I can't believe I beat the designer of Battle Grid!."

Diversity was the key to success at this year's PentaCon XIX in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, November 7-9 at the Grand Wayne Center. There were more types of games played than previous years. Cards, role playing, miniatures, and board games covered the grand hall. We even saw a miniature cage match with action figures from pro wresting. Cool!

Fun for the whole family - These competitive youngsters gang up on the adults in a spirited game of Virus Alert!.

The non-holiday weekend may have hurt sales at this year's Origins, June 26-29 in Columbus, Ohio, but it didn't stop the gamers from having fun. One of our favorite conventions, Origins always delivers the best variety in gaming. Thanks to GAMA for a great show. We'll see you all at GENCON!

Over 600 game and hobby stores were represented at this year's GAMA Trade Show March 17-20 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Neither Snow, nor rain (well, maybe both)

Well-known fantasy artist Robert Kraus of RAK Graphics in Akron displays is fantastic works at UT-BASHCon..

We thought we were getting away from the snow by joining BASH at this year's UT-BASHCon 2003 at the University of Toledo Student Union on Februray 21-23. Boy, were we wrong. It snowed Saturday night, and slowed the town down a bit. Gaming trudged on thanks to BashCon Coordinator Josh Anderson and his faithful crew.

Pre-Turkey Day Gaming At GameFest INDY!

I think it's time for an air strike.
Veteran gamers try out a prototype of Operation: IRON HAMMER at GameFest INDY.

Grandma would be proud of the feast laid out before hundreds of ravenous gamers at this year's GameFest INDY 2002. There were plenty of tasty ccgs, board games, wargames, and role playing games to be sampled day and night. Even the vendors couldn't resist taking a bite out of the action. Everyone had a great time, thanks to Larry Ice and his crew from Advantage Convention Services.

PentaCon XVIII Invades Ft. Wayne!

Combat was fast and fierce in the game room as these two commanders face off on the Battle Grid of Eternity.

Half-orc wizards, mechwarriors, battle knights, Roman chariots, arm-chair generals, and even a few plastic army men descended on the Grand Wayne Center in Ft. Wayne Nov. 1-3, 2002 for PentaCon XVIII. Dice were rolled, nachos were munched, and battles were won. Combatants paused only briefly to ogle the belly dancing troop, and witness the controlled melee of foam-padded knights in live-action combat. When the dust finally settled in the main ballroom on Sunday afternoon everyone gathered their weapons, and prepared for battle at the next PentaCon.

Buckeye GameFest III Sets Record Attendance!

CABS member Terry Hollern GMs the Greek Naval Warfare miniatures game.

No costumes, no castles, just a lot of dedicated gamers having fun. That's what we found over the weekend of October 4-6 at the 2002 Buckeye GameFest convention in Columbus, Ohio. Sponsored by the Columbus Area Boardgaming Society (CABS) and The Central Ohio Gamer's Association (COGA), this convention fosters the true spirit of gaming. The attendees were serious about gaming (they even brought their own games), and equally serious about having fun. The hall was filled with everything from miniature wargames, to Euros and other multi-player strategy games. They even played one of our favorites, Acquire from Avalon Hill. My new favorite is a miniatures game called Greek Naval Warfare (shown in the photo). You can see more pics of this one, and other games being played at BGF III in the Photo Gallery.

Battle Grid™ Mascots Found At Dragon*Con 2002!

We found these two soldiers (actually Joey Moran on the left, wearing the WWI German field uniform, and Andrew Camp in the WWI British officer uniform) wandering around the Dealer's Room at Dragon*Con this weekend. After chasing them down, and convincing them we weren't paparazzi, they agreed to pose for a few Battle Grid pics. You can't tell from the photo, but they are holding miniature versions of their wartime characters from the Battle Grid Army Expansion packs. Great costumes, guys!
