Here are some frequently asked questions about Battle Grid™:

Starter Sets
Battle Grid™ starter sets include everything you need to begin playing the game. You get one game board, three dice (1d6, 1d8 , and 1d10), 10 tokens for marking wounds, 6 plastic Revolutionary War U.S. Militia soldiers, 6 plastic Revolutionary War British Infantry soldiers, a 6-page rulebook, and a Army Special Tactics data sheet for all 15 armies in the first edition.

Army Expansions
There are 12 expansion armies in the first edition of Battle Grid. More armies are planned for the second edition, plus cavalry units.

Question: When I move my solider towards a compass point on the grid, can I choose a straight or diagonal path to get there?
Answer: No. The odd numbered compass points (1, 3, 5, and 7) are always straight paths of movement, while the even numbered ones (2, 4, 6, and 8) are always diagonal. Imagine you are standing anywhere on the grid holding a compass, and the compass points North. If you want to move North East (a 2 on the dice roll), then you must move diagonally towards the 2. In some cases, like when your Solider is standing at the edge of the grid, a diagonal move is not possible, because it would take you off the grid.

Question: What would happen if my Commander moves, lands on a Take A Shot square, and has an enemy figure in the line of sight? Does the free Take a Shot effect use up the rest of my Commander's combo order (MOVE, + another order)?
Answer: No, the Commander gets a free OPEN FIRE order, and then can complete the original order combo. If fact, the Commander could finish the original order (use a HEAL, OPEN FIRE, or CLOSE COMBAT order as the second half), then use the Take A Shot effect afterwards, as long as the Commander is still standing on the Take A Shot square. If the Commander moves out of the TAS square for any reason before using the effect, the free shot is lost.

Question: My wounded soldier is attacked in Close Combat, and I roll a 6 (Dodge) on the Block order. When I move the soldier laterally, he lands on a Heal Up square. Is the wound removed, or would this happen only when I issue a Move order to that soldier?
Answer: Anytime a Wounded Soldier lands on HEAL UP, the wound marker is automatically removed. A MOVE order, and a lateral movement both move a Soldier, so they should mean the same thing. Sorry for the confusion.

Question: If I Dodge a Close Combat attack and land on Take A Shot, can I Open Fire on an enemy soldier in my line of sight, even if it isn't my turn?
Answer: Yes. The rulebook says "If a Soldier lands on this square, they are allowed to OPEN FIRE on any enemy Soldier that is in their Line of Sight."

Question: Is it better to go first or second in the 2-player game?
Answer: Strategically, it's better to go second. On the first turn, all of your Soldiers are in the Safe Zone, so your opponent will not be able to attack you. When you move out of the Safe Zone, you may land in a position to attack your opponent's Soldiers that have left the Safe Zone.

Question: If one of my Soldiers is Fragged while he is standing in the Safe Zone, does he take a wound?
Answer: No. Soldiers cannot be harmed while in the Safe Zone.

Question: If my Commander or one of my Soldiers lands on TAKE A SHOT, and there is an enemy Soldier in an adjacent square, can I issue a CLOSE COMBAT order instead of OPEN FIRE?
Answer: Yes. Soldiers landing on TAKE A SHOT are allowed to attack any valid enemy target by shooting, or hand-to-hand once for free.
